When it comes to the fashion industry, people immediately think of fashion designers and how their creativity can create the prettiest outfits. Fashion design may seem like something you can only attain if you’re born with that skill. After all, creativity can’t be taught, right? However, it’s still possible for you to join the fashion industry even if you feel you aren’t born with the creative genius designers have. I thought I wouldn’t have a chance to be included in the fashion world since I lacked ideas, but I found a way to get an opportunity into my desired work field by seeking out fashion classes online.
Fashion courses online have a lot of skills to offer aside from sketching our designs. The world of fashion doesn’t only consist of designers since their designs can only come to life with the help of those who know how to sew and construct the concept. If anything, these people are the backbone of the industry, and I became one of them through the lessons I learned in my classes.
1. Sewing
Sewing classes for beginners are all about knowing how to put the pieces together using the technique of sewing. Most people know how to sew at a young age since it’s taught to us by our mothers, but there are others who haven’t learned how to. Luckily, these classes can teach you not only the basics of sewing but also alteration techniques, drafting, pattern manipulation, and other advanced sewing skills. Even the average person who knows how to sew may need to take these classes, especially when they wish to learn how to make specific articles of clothing such as jackets, trousers, heritage apparel, and blazers. I took these classes and have already learned more than the basic techniques.
2. Making Shoes
Although shoes aren’t always made of fabric, they are still part of fashion which means fashion training centres offer handmade shoe making courses. In these courses, you will learn what materials are used to create shoes and how hand welting works. Designing shoes is also one of the classes provided in this course. In that class, they are able to show you just how complex it can be despite being the very last thing people look at in an outfit.
3. Brand Management
Aside from being a part of the creation process, some classes teach you the skills needed in fashion marketing. Entrepreneurship is a challenging task since it requires you to learn how to sell a product to your target audience. Brand management is a course that focuses on strategies that will help you make a name for yourself in the world. If you want to start a clothing brand, you will have to learn the basics of managing one.
4. Garment Construction
As mentioned earlier, apparel design is not all there is to fashion. Designers are nothing without people who know precisely how to make their ideas into reality. In garment construction, I could apply what I learned from my sewing classes into building an entire garment. I was also taught additional techniques for seams and stitches used in different components of a garment, and it was satisfying to see the results at the end of my classes. It really made me feel as though I was a part of the fashion world.
